Michael Shanks 5th Online Charity Auction Commences

Published by under News

A second spin-off – “Stargate Universe” – due to hit the airwaves, with cameos and appearances by original cast members. A third DVD movie in the pipeline – and a DVD movie for the first spin-off, “Stargate: Atlantis” – also on the drawing board. A re-mastered re-release of its original series pilot. More novels from Fandemonium Books. More audio dramas from Big Finish Productions. What began back in 1996 as a spin-off from a feature film, a little series called “Stargate: SG-1″ continues to make its mark on television history.

With the DVD release of the re-mastered pilot – “The Children Of The Gods” – imminent, Michael Shanks Online, the official website for actor Michael Shanks (http://www.michaelshanks-online.com) is launching their fifth annual online auction, the proceeds of which will be donated to the Mutiple Sclerosis Society Canada, the charity supported by SG-1 actors Michael Shanks and his wife, Lexa Doig.

With a collection of memorabilia to attract even the mildest of “SG-1″ fans – including some of Shanks’ own scripts from the series – the auction will also appeal to a broad range of science fiction afficionados, featuring items from past and current popular series such as “Supernatural”, “Battlestar Galactica”, “Star Trek”, “Torchwood”, “Farscape” and the “SG-1″ spin-off, “Stargate: Atlantis”.

Included among the many items available for auction:

* Michael Shanks’ signed, personal “SG-1″ scripts (with hand-written notations), plus scripts and call sheets from his appearances on the USA Network series “Burn Notice” and the Fox Network series “24”

* Stargate DVDs signed by the original movie’s stars, Kurt Russell, Mili Avatal, Erick Avari and Alexis Cruz.

* Photos, posters, DVDs and action figures signed by – among others – Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles (“Supernatural”), Jeffrey Donovan (“Burn Notice”), Jamie Bamber and Katee Sackhoff (“Battlestar Galactica”), Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett and Paul McGillion (“Stargate: Atlantis”), Sean Astin (“The Lord Of The Rings”) and Gareth David Lloyd (“Torchwood”).

* “SG-1″ team and individual photos, DVDs, and more, signed by Michael Shanks, Claudia Black, Amanda Tapping, Beau Bridges, Ben Browder and Christopher Judge, among others.

In the last four years, the Michael Shanks Online auctions and related fundraising efforts have raised just over $81,000 U.S. for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. This year’s auction, which includes items donated and/or signed for the auction by Michael Shanks, Lexa Doig, Kurt Russell, Beau Bridges, Claudia Black, Amanda Tapping, Jeffrey Donovan, David Hewlett, Christopher Judge and Scott Bakula – among many others – promises to be even more exciting than the last. Michael Shanks Teleports To Burn Notice

Published by under Interviews

Michael Shanks may be away on a family holiday with his wife Lexa Doig and their children, but the multi talented actor has still managed to squeeze in a telephone interview.

Here is an excerpt of the interview:

Calling from atop the CN Tower in Toronto, where he’s on a family vacation with wife Lexa Doig and their children, “Stargate SG-1″ star Michael Shanks is happy to take time to talk about his latest TV venture.

On Thursday, he launched a recurring role on the USA Network espionage dramedy “Burn Notice.” He’s playing Victor, a blacklisted spy sent to Miami by Carla (Tricia Helfer), the new handler of also-blacklisted spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan), to wrangle Michael into supplying technical assistance for a new operation.

“It’s one of those roles where I get to chew every bit of scenery in town,” Shanks says, “which is always fun to play. When you have that kind of artistic license to go big or go home, it can be a bit of a romp.” In addition, it afforded Shanks a chance to leave Canada and warm up in the Florida sunshine.
“It’s Miami,” he says, “so it’s hard to be in a bad mood there.

“I’m doing the last three episodes of the season. I’m not entirely sure what the story line is. Matt (executive producer Matt Nix) teased me with a few tidbits, which I can’t really reveal.” Unfortunately, Shanks didn’t get to do any scenes with Bruce Campbell, who plays Michael’s spy buddy Sam Axe.
“Bruce is a personal hero of mine,” Shanks says. “Guys of my generation, after watching ‘Army of Darkness’ or the ‘Evil Dead’ movies — Bruce becomes a type of superhero to you.”

Most recently, Shanks could be seen in the DVD release of “Stargate: Continuum,” a stand-alone movie featuring the “SG-1″ characters.

Last month, at Comic-Con International in San Diego, “Continuum” writer and executive producer Michael Wright said he’s been asked to write a script for another “SG-1″ movie, but, as Shanks says, “That’s, of course, far off from us getting in front of the camera to do it.”

“It was my first big job, and it’s been going on for a dozen years now, and it still goes on.”
According to Shanks, development continues on “Rage of Angels,” a TV-series project he’s working on with “SG-1″ co-star Christopher Judge. The fantasy pilot casts Judge as the angel Gabriel, with Shanks as Lucifer.

“It looks like a great, well- respected show-runner has come onboard and is working on a seven- year plan for it,” Shanks says. “I get all of my information from Christopher, so I have to take everything with a boulder of salt.”

He has no plans to appear on “Sanctuary,” the new Sci Fi Channel series from “SG-1″ and “Stargate Atlantis” star Amanda Tapping, premiering Oct. 3.

Stargate Is A Huge Hit At Comic Con 2008

Published by under News

This year’s Comic Con event in San Diego has been a huge success for the entire franchise. Familiar faces from the shows were out in force with the line up including:

Richard Dean Anderson
Amanda Tapping
Ben Browder
Michael Shanks
Christopher Judge
Beau Bridges
Martin Wood
Brad Wright
Lexa Doig
Joe Flanigan
Jewel Staite
Robert Picardo

Stargate Continuum

First out of the starting block was Stargate Continuum. The highlight of this panel was a very moving video montage to the fallen Don S. Davis; it was evident by the panel’s members that Davis is extremely missed by all.

The main news announcement at this panel from Brad Wright, that MGM has given the go ahead for Brad Wright to start on the story for the next SG-1 movie.

Wright also added that the new spin off series Stargate Universe is nearly a done deal as well.

Everyone was excited by the premiere of Continuum with hundreds of fans turning up on the deck of the US carrier Midway the night before the screening. The actors and actresses and directing cast are very proud of the film, and what it represents, the chance to shoot in the Arctic and work together again after SG1 was cancelled.

Several members of the panel talked about how they have enjoyed working together over the years, and hoped to be able to do so in the future.

Stargate Worlds

The second panel was centralised around the up and coming and highly anticipated Stargate Worlds.

In game demo footage was provided along with answering questions from fans in the audience. Fans of the Stargate franchise will be pleased to know that the characters in the game are going to be based on real life experiences from the television shows Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis.

The game itself will be set right before Season 9 of Stargate SG1 and the events that have taken place in the Stargate Universe.

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment confirmed that game is currently only available for Windows but will be looking to launch on other platforms after its general release.

(This announcement and gaming platform compatibility is subject to change)

Stargate Atlantis

The final event at this year’s comic con was the Stargate Atlantis panel. This panel featured several promotional shots and videos for the new season five which is already released on Sci Fi in the United States.

One of the most interesting items at this year’s panel was about Joe Flanigan, who is the only original cast member of Atlantis to attend this year’s Atlantis panel.

Joe said that his character, Colonel John Sheppard had evolved since the start of the show, where he tended to be happy being on his own in a multitude of situations; he has now become a team player.

Robert Picardo was asked how he felt about filling the shoes of Amanda Tapping as the leader of the Atlantis expedition. Picardo jokily answered that he would rather watch Amanda Tapping on television in charge of Atlantis than himself. Joe responded saying that he would make a hot new female lead, to which Robert replied his character Richard Woolsey would be wearing women’s clothing later in the season.

The panel was later asked about difficulties they have experienced whilst filming on set. Jewel replied with my most difficult episode to date was in season four ‘Tracker’ where I was kidnapped in the woods. Robert Picardo replied with the upcoming episode in season five ‘Inquisition’ was the hardest for him as his character had 10 straight pages of dialogue.

The most interesting announcement at this year’s panel came from another audience member, who asked if there was going to be any romance between Sheppard and Teyla in season five. Brad Wright mentioned that they have a very unique relationship which would be explored more this season.

That’s a Wrap

This brings to an end the Comic Con event of 2008. The Atlantis Archive will be adding video footage soon of interviews, and from the event itself.
