Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment Files For Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, Resistance Still Supported

Published by under Games

It’s official the development Studio behind the long-awaited and overdue Stargate Worlds and the recently released Stargate Resistance has filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the United States of America.

This recent announcement and declaration throws into doubt the release of Stargate Worlds, with the game still several months away before completion it looks increasingly likely this will become yet another defunct Stargate games release. However fans do not need to fear the development studio FireSky has announced it will continue to support Stargate Resistance.

Here is the official Statement from the studio:

Hi guys, in light of recent events this is the official statement from FireSky:

Cheyenne Mountain’s corporate structure has undergone some dramatic changes in the last few weeks, and that has resulted in various actions such as the filing for Chapter 11. Certain parties believed that was the right thing to do, other parties do not and this is still being evaluated and may be rescinded. Even if the bankruptcy should go through, however, Chapter 11 simply allows a company to restructure its debt to a manageable plan approved by the courts. It does not absolve a company of debt, and it does not shut it down or otherwise affect its daily operations.

This will all be sorted out in the legal and proper manner, and all of us on the development side of things hope it’s done as quickly as possible.

That said, our entire staff is in-house working on upgrades and expansions for Stargate Resistance, and we continue to be motivated and excited by the response we’ve received from our customers.

See you on the battlefield!

Firesky Studios Annouces Stargate Resistance Video Game

Firesky and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, the studios behind the financially troubled but still in production MMO role-playing game Stargate Worlds, is working on a second video game title. Stargate Resistance is an online, third-person shooter currently in the final stages of development, the game will be based upon the Unreal 3 graphics engine.

Here is the official announcement from the website

Hello to our fans, and a special hello to any of you I’ve had the pleasure of chatting with one-on-one during the past couple years. I’m glad to be back online! I’m sure it comes as no surprise to you that here at Firesky the last year has been a little rough. The fact I’m here talking to you should tell you there’s a happy ending in sight.

We’ve come through it all with as much excitement and passion for the Stargate franchise as ever (Stargate: Universe, anyone?) and, as you can see from this new website, for now we’re focusing our efforts on an exciting new game for you Stargate fans, Stargate:Resistance. Combining the talents of all our developers, this 3rd-person action title pits teams of Stargate Command personnel against the System Lords and their minions in exhilarating real-time online battles. This new title is the fruit of what we’ve all worked on in the last few months.

The game focuses on three really exciting elements: fluid team-centric play (the classes support one another), fast-paced real-time combat, and wonderful maps designed specifically to bring these two sides into conflict through dynamic hand-to-hand and ranged combat.

Resistance brings to our fans the kind of gameplay SGW never planned to deliver. Resistance delivers the combat, weapons and tactics seen so often on the show that many of you have been asking for. I know this game will excite fans who have longed to go toe-to-toe with a Jaffa as well as those who always wanted to dominate the galaxy in ways the MMO could only hint at, and I’m proud to have been part of this team and prouder still that Firesky is bringing this product to you. Everyone working hard on this title is equally proud, and well they should be.

As well as building this new exciting product, paramount to Firesky’s long-term future is restoring your confidence and trust in us. While we’ve never lied to you about our circumstances, many times we were silent while our critics had their fun at our expense. We chose to remain quiet during those times, because, honestly, we often didn’t know what our future was day-to-day, sometimes even hour-to-hour. As a group we chose to not say anything until we knew something.

Moving forward, think of our relationship as one we need to re-build; imagine this conversation is the first one we have over a cup of coffee in Starbucks where I ask you to give us a chance to restore what we had and enjoyed together.

Continue to stick with us. I know you’ll enjoy the fast-paced action Resistance has in store for you while we continue to work towards SGW’s release.

Shane Hensley Confirms The Lights Are Still On For Stargate Worlds

Published by under News

Shane Hensley the director of new business development for FireSky has confirmed today that a significant portion of the needed funds to continue development on Stargate Worlds have been raised.

Featured below is Shane Hensleys Official Announcement

Hi all–quick update. A lot of people are on leave right now (including myself) but the guys showing the game to investors and upper management are all there trying daily to get us re-started.

My understanding is a significant portion of the funds have been raised, but it’s one of those situations where everyone involved (us and the investors) want to make sure there’s enough to cover all our needs. To be clear, let’s say we need X million. If someone puts in $100,000 right now, that’s great and much appreciated, but it doesn’t get the game shipped and that investor would lose his money if the rest isn’t raised in the long-term.

Needless to say, every single investor does substantial due diligence due to the delay of the game and negative press we’ve received. A significant number *have* pledged money on completion of their research into our books, however, so I find that very encouraging.

Otherwise, it’s an ongoing process and there just won’t be much news until then, but the day we return to full operations I’ll let everyone know. In the meantime, thanks very much for your support and well-wishes.

Stargate Worlds Fait To Be Decided Within Weeks

The next 6 days may finally bring a resolution to the curious case of the Stargate Worlds on again off again saga that has plagued the developer FireSky for several months, according to reports the development studio has until the 1st August to raise $8 million dollars or face having the license pulled by MGM.

At this present time, the company’s last hope appears to stand with a group of doctors who are considering making the investment into the continuing development of the game. This cash infusion would keep the lights on, and all it to pay off back wages and actually launch Stargate Worlds in the 4th quarter of 2009.

Shane Hensley, who is heading up a separate project at FireSky Studios, and also serves as the company’s Director of New Business Development, responded to the report: “We do continue to talk to investors, including the doctors.”

He went on to say that the company has never considered scrapping Stargate Worlds, and denied that the license was on the verge of being pulled.

“MGM certainly isn’t thrilled with our current situation, but neither do we have any specific indication they’re pulling the license on any particular date”.

“Overall, funding is obviously a huge challenge for us, but our management is working on it daily,” Hensley said. “Its visible progress and we obviously have great faith. The struggle has been more than most could bear, but there are a few here that have independent means or significant personal investment that have been able to ride it out.”

Cheyenne Mountain And FireSky Sponsor 2009 USRT

Published by under News

The worlds of gaming, racing, Hollywood, and women in sport have merged in the latest announcement involving the 2009 Atlantic Championship, as Frankie Muniz and Simona de Silvestro were confirmed as part of Team Stargate Worlds’ assault on the series.

Despite the name, the team itself won’t be unfamiliar as it will be operated by Atlantic regular US RaceTronics, but will run under its otherworldly banner after landing sponsorship from sci-fi game Stargate Worlds’ developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and publisher FireSky.

“We are very pleased to have created this association with the USRT family and believe that Team Stargate Worlds will be a very exciting team to watch for in 2009,” co-principals Imran Safiulla and Shane Seneviratne said in a statement to accompany the launch, The Stargate Worlds game is being anticipated as one of the most exciting MMOs to be released and we are very grateful to Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment for their belief in us to develop a strong pre-launch campaign for the game. Both Simona and Frankie are very unique drivers and represent fantastic human journeys. We look forward to being a part of their success and making history.”

Former actor Muniz returns to the Atlantic series, and the USRT family, after a solid 2008 season in which he earned three top ten results and narrowly missed finishing inside the top ten in the championship.

“I’m excited about Team Stargate Worlds and the upcoming season,” the third-year driver commented, “I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone at Cheyenne Mountain and Gary Whiting for this incredible opportunity, and I’m looking forward to working with everyone at US RaceTronics once again, including my new engineer Gerald Tyler.”

de Silvestro also returns for her third year in Atlantics, having previously driven for Walker Racing and Newman Wachs Racing. She become only the second woman in Atlantic Championship history – after Katherine Legge – to win a race by taking the season-opening Imperial Capital Bank Atlantic Challenge of Long Beach with NWR in 2008, and racked up eight top ten finishes and eighth overall.

“The team has a great combination of proven winners, including the capable engineering of Burke Harrison, and we hope to have a very strong team this year,” the Italo-Swiss noted, “I’m really looking forward to partnering Frankie in bringing our team success – and ecstatic about entering Frankie’s world of acting in a virtual sense.”

Both Muniz and de Silvestro will be featured in the upcoming Stargate Worlds multiplayer online role-playing game, which is based on Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s successful franchise of the same name.

In addition to sponsorship from Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and FireSky, the team continues to have the support of Meguiar’s Car Care Products and Mechanix Wear, and adds Cardinal Technologies, a leader in programme management, for 2009.

Stargate Worlds Head Interview

Published by under Interviews

In a recent interview with Video Gamer FireSky studios head Dan Elggren talks about his plans and the up and coming Stargate Worlds.

Here is an excerpt of the interview:

VideoGamer.com: Tell us about the combat

Dan Elggren: (Points towards TV screen showing Stargate Worlds trailer) You see those guys moving into that ice planet? They had to take cover. As they were shooting the mobs the mobs were taking cover as well. So there’s this interesting dynamic of how the mobs and the players utilise the environment to play flanking positions and ultimately remove the opponent from cover. Cover is like a buff in the environment. We’re not really a first-person shooter, we’re still doing dice rolls within the combat system, but you can auto-target, you can open up and fire, sustained fire, suppression and throwing grenades and really playing with your abilities to ultimately take on the enemy in the best way possible.

VideoGamer.com: Do you snap to cover?

DE: There’s a little circle piece of the UI at the bottom and there’s a green bar and there’s a blue bar and that’s your health and your focus. Your focus is battlefield focus, so if you lose your focus on the battlefield you start to lose a lot more health, so you want to keep your focus clean and you have abilities to keep that focus up. But within that circle there’s a very dynamic colour indicator that shows you as you move up to cover what type of cover you have and what angles you have cover at – yellow for medium cover to green for high cover. And you can really play with that and you can also see where you’re taking damage. So if you’re taking damage within the areas that are in colour you can see that those are places that you’re covered. If you see you are taking damage from other locations you’ll want to move yourself to make sure you can get to a better position so you’re not taking the damage. If you’re out of cover you’re going to take damage very quickly. So it’s that little indicator as well as knowing the environment. It shows you very quickly how the environment gives you that buff. So it’s not really snapping. But you know when you’re in cover. There’s other indicators. At the top it will say my target, what type of cover he has, my cover to him, and it’s really that feedback going back and forth with the mobs.
