The Rise In Illegal File Sharing Of Stargate Atlantis Episodes

Many fans will know that Stargate Atlantis was cancelled a few months ago with the show ending with its momentous 100th episode at the end of its current fifth season.

Fans around the world have been left feeling outraged that such a popular Sci Fi classic has been cancelled the official reasons behind the shows cancelation are increasing operating costs.

However interesting new news has come to light regarding the popularity of Stargate Atlantis among illegal file sharers.

Stargate Atlantis ranked in 6th place for the  most illegally downloaded television show during the course of 2008. More people downloaded the show from illegal sources than watched it on American television and other television channels globally.

Complaints have arisen from New Zealand, European and even Canadian television studios regarding the long wait between shows airing in the United States and then making their way globally to various regions.

This trend has led to the inevitable rise in illegal downloads by loyal fans wanting to know what is happening now instead of waiting several months before the episode airs in their regions.

  1. It really sucks that the show has been cancelled and its even worse that if people who downloaded the episodes from illegal sources are one of the main reasons.

But in fairness to them we have to wait ages and ages before we get to see whats going on in Atlantis i’m from australia and where so far behind its untrue.

Long live Atlantis in movie form i say as its obvious that the show wont be uncancelled.

    V interesting news article though

  3. I wrote the PC Pro piece you've linked to, and I must point out a few things. Firstly, it was a blog post, a personal opinion rather than a news article. Secondly, the "complaints from TV studios" that you mention don't exist – I said I'd read complaints from fans in my time looking through forums. The only figures I have are the top ten most downloaded shows of 2008, I didn't mention any reasons for the show's cancellation at all, so to draw conculsions from it is slightly missing the point of what was merely a chatty blog.
