MGM’s brand new science fiction drama now has its first trailer and a premiere date. Earth Abides will bow on MGM+ Saturday, December 1 (9/8c), with a member of the Stargate Universe cast set to appear.
Based on the classic novel by George R. Stewart, Earth Abides tells the story of a group of survivors in a world devastated by a virulent plague, who struggle against the extinction of humanity as civilization crumbles around them. Todd Komarnicki (Sully) is writing and executive producing the limited event series for MGM+. Bronwen Hughes, Rachel Leiterman, and Stephen Campanelli are directing its six episodes.
Earth Abides stars Alexander Ludwig (Vikings) as Ish and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark) as Emma. And in a supporting role SGU‘s Elyse Levesque plays Maurine, described as “beautiful but troubled,” a woman who is “used to a life of wealth and sophistication” but is left despondent by her past traumas. Levesque played Chloe Armstrong on SGU, which ran for two seasons on Syfy Channel.

Other cast members include Aaron Tveit (Schmigadoon!) as Charlie, Rodrigo Fernandez-Stoll (Ghosts) Jorge, Hilary McCormack (Killjoys) as Jean, Luisa D’Oliveira (The 100) as Molly, Birkett Turton (iZombie) as Ezra, and Jenna Berman (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Evie.

“It has been an absolute thrill to adapt George Stewart’s sci fi classic,” Komarnicki said. “And an even greater honor to deliver a show that is custom built for our moment in history. Because amidst all the wild adventure and story twists and turns, ‘Earth Abides’ provides proof that the one way forward for humanity is … love.”
The 6-episode series will be distributed worldwide by Amazon MGM Studios Distribution. In the United States, MGM+ can be added to most cable and streaming packages as a premium add-on. It’s also available as a dedicated streaming service. Learn more at MGMPlus.com.
