Life is mighty fine for Portsmouth science fiction author Melissa Scott as well, what with 20-plus published books and counting. “I’m working an exciting project, a series of novels set after the fifth season of “Stargate: Atlantis.” The series is titled “Stargate: Atlantis;” book one is “The Return.”
Author Jo Graham, got Scott hooked on the series. When the show ended at season five, “we talked about how that was a shame,” says Scott. “And we would talk about where the show could have possibly gone.”
When the pair heard MGM put an indefinite hold on a follow-up movie they decided to run a proposal by Graham’s editor at Fandemonium Books. Two books are now under contract, with more in the pipeline.
“We started writing before we actually sold it because we knew the deadline would be tight and in fact it is. It’s due Jan. 21. …; We only started Octoberish. We’d actually done a lot of talking before that, so we had the plot pretty solid,” says Scott.
The next novel is due in June 2010. If the following two sell, the pair will bring in another woman to work with them. Those books are due October 2010 and January 2011. “Yup, it’s tight,” Scott says laughing.
Can't wait! Atlantis should never have been cancelled. SGU is absolute crap.
