Maj. Samantha Carter disappears. She was last seen leaving her own home, and her car was found parked at a nearby fitness club

Convinced that Carter's disappearance is connected to her work at Stargate Command, O'Neill contacts former rival Col. Harry Maybourne for information, only to end up speaking with another old foe, Col. Simmons

O'Neill deduces that an ailing billionaire named Adrian Conrad is involved; the man has acquired a live Goa'uld symbiote and hopes to use the creature to heal himself of a terminal illness. Carter was abducted because she was once implanted with a symbiote and survived. Now Conrad wants to use her as a test subject

Unfortunately, even if the implantation doesn't kill her, Conrad's scientists might, when they vivisect her to study how her body reacts to the creature
