The Tollans offer Stargate Command a trade � they will provide Earth with ion cannons in exchange for large quantities of a mineral called trinium

Col. Jack O'Neill and Dr. Daniel Jackson are sent to negotiate the deal. O'Neill doesn't trust the Tollans � they are being too accommodating, and they are deliberately vague about why they need the trinium

According to Narim, the Tollan curia had been split on the notion of sharing their technology with Earth, but the recent death of Omoc shifted the balance within the ruling body. Narim suspects foul play in Omoc's demise and thinks that it might be part of a larger conspiracy

The deal is finally made, but SG-1 tags the first shipment of trinium so that they can track it and see what the Tollans are really using it for, and perhaps learn why the Tollans have suddenly become so generous with their weapon technology

When Goa'uld system lord Tanith shows up, now working for a new master, matters take a rapid turn for the worse, and all of Earth is endangered
