The next 6 days may finally bring a resolution to the curious case of the Stargate Worlds on again off again saga that has plagued the developer FireSky for several months, according to reports the development studio has until the 1st August to raise $8 million dollars or face having the license pulled by MGM.
At this present time, the company’s last hope appears to stand with a group of doctors who are considering making the investment into the continuing development of the game. This cash infusion would keep the lights on, and all it to pay off back wages and actually launch Stargate Worlds in the 4th quarter of 2009.
Shane Hensley, who is heading up a separate project at FireSky Studios, and also serves as the company’s Director of New Business Development, responded to the report: “We do continue to talk to investors, including the doctors.”
He went on to say that the company has never considered scrapping Stargate Worlds, and denied that the license was on the verge of being pulled.
“MGM certainly isn’t thrilled with our current situation, but neither do we have any specific indication they’re pulling the license on any particular date”.
“Overall, funding is obviously a huge challenge for us, but our management is working on it daily,” Hensley said. “Its visible progress and we obviously have great faith. The struggle has been more than most could bear, but there are a few here that have independent means or significant personal investment that have been able to ride it out.”

According to a leaked online report which is currently being circulated by ‘Associated Content‘, Stargate Worlds is aiming for 4Q 2009 official release just in time for the Christmas period.
A note from the developers
Stargate Worlds will be based on the hit television show, Stargate SG-1. An MMORPG game placed in a science-fiction universe of this magnitude has been long desired by fans worldwide. The storyline will highlight the earlier seasons of the show and the main setting at release will be the Milky Way Galaxy. The war between Goa’uld and the Tau’ri rages on, one of the many conflicts between various different races from the hit Sci Fi show.
Players will be able to choose certain archetypes, which operate differently from other traditional MMORPGs. There is no particular ‘tank’ class or ‘healer’ class. Instead, a highly flexible tech tree can be used to customize your character in endless ways. Each archetype will have three specialization trees that give the player the ability to have hybrid roles. Combat will emphasize first-person shooter concepts and tactical gameplay. The weapons will be diverse and the enemy AI will prove to be a challenge.
Whether this time frame will be kept is still unknown as the game has been in pre production for several years.

With the rumour mill in over drive regarding the fate of Stargate Worlds, the developers of the game, have released an official press release stating that development is still very much in progress.
This announcement by the developers comes hot off the recently published statement in which Brad Wright, all but much implies that Stargate Worlds was most likely never going to get released, wether this implication was due to a lack of communication between the developing studio and the head of the Stargate Franchise is not currently known.
You can read the official press release below
Our official response is that the lights here are still on and the development team is working hard every day to get this game built.
I’ve been asked from many corners lately to provide an official response to a story circulated by Gateworld.net. I spoke with Darren Sumner, the author of the story, soon after it was posted and gave him a detailed response to the article which he decided not to publish.
Our official response is that the lights here are still on and the development team is working hard every day to get this game built. Team members are in the office seven days a week to deliver Stargate Worlds. Brad Wright is the Stargate expert and a creative consultant on Stargate Worlds who advises us on the story; unfortunately we had not recently updated him on our progress or the impact from the current global economic crisis, and he was not fully aware of the continuing progress on our game.
It’s true that the production of Stargate Worlds has been significantly impacted by the greatest worldwide economic downturn in decades, but we are still raising enough money from angel investors to keep the dev team working.
We are currently negotiating several deals that will cover our financial responsibilities and fund the remainder of development. When we sign those deals, you’ll hear about it. Until then, we’ll keep building Stargate Worlds, because right now, that’s the only thing that matters to us.
It is worth noting that unless an official statement has been released by the developers regarding the fate of Stargate Worlds, then all other announcements and news related articles should be taken lightly when making assumptions regarding its fate.
